Our live blog will shortly be closing until tomorrow morning.

Here are the day's key developments:

- The death toll in Gaza since 7 October 2023 has now reached 56,077, with 131,848 wounded, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza said.

- The Israeli army has killed at least 79 people in Gaza on Tuesday, including 50 waiting for aid.

- Altogether, at least 410 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli military while trying to collect aid from the controversial new US-Israeli aid hubs in Gaza, which is "a likely war crime," the United Nations human rights office, Ohchr, has said.

The Reuters news agency reported that the US is giving $30m to those aid hubs, run by the scandal-plagued Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). Reuters cites four of its own sources as well as a government document it has reviewed for its story.

- Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani said on Tuesday that Doha was working to restart Gaza ceasefire talks in the coming days and cautioned Israel against using its truce with Iran as a pretext to intensify attacks on the besieged enclave.

- The Palestinian Ministry of Education said Israel’s war has severely impacted Gaza’s education sector, leaving 788,000 students there without access to schooling.

At least 410 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli military while trying to collect aid from the controversial new US-Israeli aid hubs in Gaza, which is "a likely war crime," the United Nations human rights office, Ohchr, said on Tuesday.

“Israel’s militarised humanitarian assistance mechanism is in contradiction with international standards on aid distribution,” spokesperson Thameen al-Keetan said in a statement.

“The weaponization of food for civilians, in addition to restricting or preventing their access to life-sustaining services, constitutes a war crime and, under certain circumstances, may constitute elements of other crimes under international law.”

The Reuters news agency reported on Tuesday that the US is giving $30m to the scandal-plagued Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a private US initiative backed by Israel that has been behind deadly food distribution sites in Gaza.

Reuters cites four of its own sources as well as a government document it has reviewed for its story.

This is the first known US government financial contribution to the organisation, which uses private US military and logistics firms to transport aid into the Palestinian enclave for distribution at so-called secure sites, where Palestinians have been shot dead while seeking help.

At least 410 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli military while trying to get aid from the distribution hubs in Gaza, which the UN says is "likely war crime", adding that  “scores of people of all ages are being killed and injured every day”.

The document seen by Reuters showed an initial $7m disbursement had been made.

The US could approve additional monthly grants of $30 million for the GHF.

Qatar's Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, in a press conference alongside Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Tuesday, laid blame on "Israel's irresponsible actions" for conflict and strife across the region.

"We must remember that the current developments in the region are a direct extension of the conflict in Gaza and the brutal aggression faced by our Palestinian brothers there," Thani said.

"I must unequivocally condemn Israel's violations of the ceasefire agreement and its continued breaches of our brotherly Lebanon's sovereignty. Such actions are unacceptable and deserve the strongest possible denunciation. We call on the UN Security Council to fulfil its responsibilities and bring an end to these irresponsible measures in the region."

He added: "It is time for the international community to take a unified stand, to stop Israel's irresponsible actions, and to end both the aggression in Gaza and the use of humanitarian aid as a means of political provocation."

Local news sources in Gaza suggest the attack stemmed from an ambush by Palestinian fighters.

The Israeli military's chief of staff Eyal Zamir said the military was at "the conclusion of a significant chapter but the campaign against Iran is not over".

Zamir said that the military's focus was on returning to Gaza to bring back the captives and to "dismantle Hamas's rule".

With the glass of an incubator separating them, Ghadeer al-Koubtan looks at her baby, who has been in intensive care for the past three days.

Koubtan reaches through the porthole of the incubator and gently touches her daughter’s head, which is small enough to fit in her palm.

Ghandoura Ibrahim al-Faraa was born prematurely at less than eight months gestation and suffers - alongside her mother and others in Gaza - from malnutrition.

She tells Middle East Eye that early birth was inevitable due to multiple nutrient deficiencies brought on by hunger, including a lack of calcium.

“There’s no milk or anything that would help get my daughter healthy or even myself,” she says.

Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani said on Tuesday that Doha was working to restart Gaza ceasefire talks in the coming days and cautioned Israel against using its truce with Iran as a pretext to intensify attacks on the besieged enclave.

“We are still continuing our efforts, and God willing, we will try to look for an opportunity during the next two days for having indirect negotiations between the two parties,” Al Thani said during a joint press conference with his Lebanese counterpart.

He added, “We hope that the Israeli side will not exploit the ceasefire with Iran to unleash what it wants to unleash on Gaza and continue its bombing of [the Strip].

Philippe Lazzarini, head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (Unrwa), criticised the newly introduced US-supported aid distribution system in Gaza on Tuesday, describing it as “an abomination.”

Speaking at a press conference in Berlin, Lazzarini said the mechanism “humiliates and degrades desperate people” and warned it was “a death trap costing more lives than it saves.”

On Tuesday alone Israeli forces have killed 71 Palestinians, including 50 who were waiting to receive aid.

Israeli occupation forces have shut Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for the 12th consecutive day, barring worshippers from entry.

The Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that only guards and Islamic Waqf Department staff are allowed inside Al-Aqsa, while the Church of the Holy Sepulchre remains closed to Christians. Entry to Jerusalem’s Old City is restricted to residents only.

Restrictions have stopped hundreds of thousands from praying at Al-Aqsa, with shops closed as access to the Old City is tightly controlled through military checkpoints.
