The United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees said famine is "imminent" in northern Gaza. 

Unrwa said the humanitarian situation in northern Gaza is "rapidly deteriorating".

“Immediate, safe, and unimpeded humanitarian access and a ceasefire now are needed more than ever," Unrwa said on X.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that he has held three phone calls with US President-elect Donald Trump in the past few days aimed at tightening the strong alliance between Israel and the United States.

"These were good and very important conversations," Netanyahu said in a statement.

"We see eye to eye on the Iranian threat in all its components, and the danger posed by it. We also see the great opportunities before Israel, in the field of peace and its expansion, and in other fields."

An Israeli strike targeting a residential building in the Sayyida Zeinab district south of Damascus killed three people, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The war monitor said the targeted apartment belonged to Hezbollah.

The Syrian state news agency meanwhile said that there was an unknown "number of dead and injured in the Israeli aggression".

Dutch police on Sunday arrested a number of protesters after they staged a demonstration in Amsterdam despite a court order banning pro-Palestine protests.

The court order came three days after Israeli hooligans provoked clashes with Dutch youth in Amsterdam by chanting racist anti-Arab slogans and tearing down Palestinian flags.

An AFP correspondent reported that police in riot gear moved in on the demonstrators in Dam Square, in the city centre.

Amsterdam police had earlier instructed protesters to leave the square and said they would arrest people who refused to leave.

Arab and Muslim leaders have begun arriving in Saudi Arabia for a summit scheduled for Monday that will focus on Israel's wars in Gaza and Lebanon, Saudi state media said.

Attendees of the joint Arab League and Organisation of Islamic Cooperation summit will "discuss the continued Israeli aggression on the Palestinian territories and the Lebanese Republic, and the current developments in the region," the Saudi Press Agency said.

The US has suspended the delivery of 13o bulldozers to Israel due to their use for home demolitions in Gaza, Israeli media is reporting.

Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronoth reported that the Israeli Defense Ministry signed a contract for the D9 bulldozers from the US firm Caterpillar.

Citing Israeli security sources, the newspaper reported that Israel had paid for the bulldozers and was awaiting export approval by the US State Department.

According to the report, the bulldozers were intended to destroy homes in the Gaza Strip, prompting fierce criticism and pressure on the Biden administration to freeze the delivery.

Sixteen people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Lebanon's Baalbek-Hermel governorate, the region's governor, Bashir Khodr, said.

“The death toll in al-Kneissah has risen to 10, and in Baalbek to 6, thus raising today’s death toll to 16 martyrs in the Baalbek-Hermel region," Khodr said in a post on X.

Lebanon's Civil Defence has said its emergency teams are recovering the dead and wounded from the rubble after the overnight Israeli strikes targeting Ras al-Ain, Nabatieh and western Beqaa.

It said its teams recovered 15 bodies and two wounded people from Ras al-Ain, adding that they are still searching for missing people under the rubble.

Rescuers also pulled two wounded people from the rubble in Nabatieh city, with another body and three wounded people recovered in the town of Shamar, in the western Beqaa District.  

In Beirut, teams worked to extinguish fires in the city's southern suburbs and in the Saint Therese area, following Israeli strikes two days ago.

The Palestinian health ministry is reporting that at least 43,603 Palestinians have been killed and another 102,929 wounded in Gaza by Israeli forces since 7 October 2023.

It added that the latest figure includes 51 Palestinians who were killed and 164 who were wounded in the last 24 hours.

Lebanon's National News Agency is reporting that Israeli forces launched a raid on a house in al-Laqis neighborhood in the city of Baalbek, as well as a cow farm in the town of Saida. 

The agency also reported Israeli raids on the towns of Wazzani and Jdeidet Marjeyoun, adding that Ras al-Ain is also being targeted with heavy artillery shelling.

Here are the latest updates:

  • Israeli forces killed 33 Palestinians, including 13 children, in a dawn strike on Jabalia refugee camp, Wafa news is reporting. The attack targeted a family home where displaced families were sheltering, flattening the building. Many others were injured, some seriously, and many more are believed to be trapped under the rubble.

  • Meanwhile, Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon escalated overnight, with Tyre, known in Arabic as Sour, and Bint Jbeil targeted by war planes and drones. Fifteen people were killed in an attack on a civil defence centre in Derqim Ras al-Ain.

  • Dr Hossam Abu Safia, the director of the besieged Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia, has called for "essential supplies" and ambulances, as well as the lifting of the siege on northern Gaza. He said that the hospital is receiving calls about people trapped beneath rubble. "This reality is unbearable," he said.
