Live: Over 200 Lebanese children killed in two months of Israeli attacks
Live Updates
The balance sheet of Israel's ongoing war on Lebanon paints a grim picture. The climbing death toll is over 3,000 people, more than a million people have been displaced and nearly a quarter of buildings in southern Lebanon have been damaged or destroyed by Israeli bombings and detonations.
As the war drags on, with little to no indication of a potential ceasefire, fears are growing over all aspects of life in Lebanon and its social and economic future - already battered by five years of economic collapse.
The Independent Task Force for Lebanon (ITFL), a group of Lebanese economists and researchers, has warned that the country’s economic losses from Israeli bombardment may exceed $20bn, while the percentage of people living in extreme poverty may reach 80 percent in heavily bombed areas.
Meanwhile, international humanitarian organisation Mercy Corps said that Lebanon’s GDP could contract by 12.81 percent should the war continue this way, or by 21.9 percent if Israel imposes a blockade and expands bombing and ground combat.
While no blockade has been officially imposed, Israel’s bombing of land crossings to Syria and its attacks close to the country’s airport have increased concerns over the movement of goods and people in and out of Lebanon.

This morning, Israeli soldiers reportedly demolished homes in Gaza, described as an act of reprisal for recent events in Amsterdam which saw Israeli football fans instigated violence in Amsterdam, attacking Palestinian supporters before the Ajax-Maccabi Tel Aviv match.
“We dedicate this explosion to all the fans of Maccabi Tel Aviv. We’ll get to all of you, you sons of bitches,” a statement from Israeli soldiers read.

Medical sources told Al Jazeera Arabic that 23 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli raids on the Gaza Strip since dawn today, with 17 of the victims located in the northern part of the region
An Amsterdam city councilman has said that Israeli football fans instigated the violence in the city, attacking Palestinian supporters before the Ajax-Maccabi Tel Aviv match, reported Al Jazeera.
“They began attacking houses of people in Amsterdam with Palestinian flags, so that’s actually where the violence started,” Councilman Jazie Veldhuyzen told Al Jazeera. “In response, Amsterdammers mobilized and countered the attacks that started on Wednesday by the Maccabi hooligans.”
Veldhuyzen also mentioned a video showing Amsterdam police driving by without intervening as Israeli fans tore down Palestinian flags at a residence in the city center.
“The mayor says the police did act, but I would say they acted at the wrong moments,” he said. “They only intervened to protect the Maccabi hooligans when Amsterdammers stood up to defend their homes. The police appeared only when the Maccabi fans fled after attacking people.”
The Israeli army has blown up houses in three border villages in Lebanon, which have been heavily affected by the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA).
Israeli forces carried out bombing operations in the villages of Yaroun, Aitaroun, and Maroun al-Ras in the Bint Jbeil area, “with the aim of destroying residential homes,” the NNA reported.
These operations are the latest in a series of similar incidents along the border.
Israeli hooligans provoked clashes with Dutch youth in Amsterdam on Thursday after they chanted racist anti-Arab slogans, tore down Palestinian flags and ignored a minute of silence for the Spanish flood victims.
The attacks by some of the travelling Maccabi Tel Aviv fans occurred on Wednesday and Thursday in different parts of of the Dutch capital ahead of their Uefa Europa League match against Amsterdam club Ajax.
Hooligans were seen removing at least two Palestinian flags from what appeared to be the front of locals' homes a night before the match, according to the AD daily newspaper.
An Arab taxi driver was also attacked by mobs who appeared to be with the Israeli fans, although police said they couldn't identify the nationality of the attackers as no arrests were made.
A group of Israeli fans gathered in the Dam Square on Wednesday were filmed sparking confrontations with locals, shouting “Fuck you” at some of them and “Fuck you Palestine”.

The United Nations Human Rights Office has verified 8,119 Palestinian deaths in Gaza during the first seven months of Israel’s war on the enclave.
Nearly 70 percent of those confirmed dead were women and children, the UN stated, condemning what it described as Israel’s systematic violation of fundamental principles of international humanitarian law.
“It is essential that there is due reckoning with respect to the allegations of serious violations of international law through credible and impartial judicial bodies and that, in the meantime, all relevant information and evidence are collected and preserved,” UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said in a statement that accompanied the 32-page report.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has urged US President-elect Donald Trump to honour his election promise and end Israel's wars on Gaza and Lebanon.
“We want that promise to be fulfilled, and for Israel to be told to stop,” Erdogan said during a press briefing with journalists accompanying him on a trip to Hungary, according to a transcript from the Turkish presidency.
“I believe that Mr Trump cutting off arms support to Israel could be an important step toward halting Israeli aggression in Palestinian and Lebanese territories.”
Erdogan expressed his desire to see an end to the continuation of President Joe Biden's policies, which he believes deepen the deadlock in the region and exacerbate the conflicts.
Following Trump’s landslide election victory on Tuesday, Erdogan held a phone call with the president-elect to congratulate him on his successful campaign.

Zaher Ibrahim Ataya, a paramedic from the southern Lebanese town of Tyre Harfa, was killed in an Israeli air strike, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA).
Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for attacking an Israeli naval base northwest of Haifa earlier on Friday.
Since then, the Lebanese armed group announced it had launched missiles targeting the Ramat David airbase and airport, located southeast of Haifa.
Israeli media reported that over 2,700 Israelis are waiting to be evacuated from Amsterdam following what was described as "violence" the previous night.
Earlier on Thursday racist Israeli football hooligans rampaged through Amsterdam, tearing down Palestinian flags, chanting “death to Arabs,” and attacking people.
In response, local youth confronted the hooligans ensuing in clashes.
At least 17 people have been killed in Israeli raids on the Gaza Strip since dawn on Friday, medical sources told Al Jazeera Arabic.
Amongst them, 13 were reported dead in the northern part of the Strip, as Israeli bombing continues across all areas of Gaza.
Israeli forces have killed 13 Palestinians and injured 26 over an eight-day period across the occupied West Bank, according to a UN report. The report also noted 35 attacks by Israeli settlers that resulted in injuries to Palestinians and damage to their property.
Of the 13 fatalities, five—including a child—occurred between October 29 and November 4. The remaining eight were killed on November 5, when Israeli forces conducted four military operations in Jenin, Tubas, and Tulkarem.
The UN stated that all victims were either shot, killed in airstrikes, or targeted with “other lethal war-like tactics.”
The report added that Israeli soldiers obstructed the Palestine Red Crescent Society from assisting one victim, who “was left bleeding for nearly an hour” and was amongst four killed during an Israeli raid.
An Al Jazeera Arabic correspondent reported that four Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a house near the Al-Mashtal Hotel, northwest of Gaza City.
The correspondent also confirmed the deaths of two young men in an Israeli bombardment west of the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza.
Donald Trump is returning to the White House with a vow to end foreign wars.
In the Middle East, he faces two blistering conflicts, one in Gaza and one in Lebanon - which will test that pledge?
Trump pitched himself to American voters as a strong leader and dealmaker. When asked about Israel’s war in Gaza, he said he wanted to "get it over with and let’s get back to peace and stop killing people".
In Gaza, Israel is waging a bloody offensive that it launched after the Hamas-led 7 October 2023 attacks on southern Israel. Hezbollah began firing rockets at Israel the next day, in what it said was in solidarity with Palestinians. Israel responded with a devastating bombing campaign and ground invasion that has so far killed over 43,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and 3,000 Lebanese.
The fighting in Lebanon has snowballed into a sort of regional battle to realign the balance of power in the Middle East, with Israel and the US on one side and Iran and its so-called "axis of resistance" on the other.
