The results are still being counted, but if the projection's are anything to go by, and Donald Trump wins the 2024 US presidential election, he could radically shake up US foreign policy in his second term.
Trump had made it abundantly clear on the campaign trail that he believed US foreign policy needed fundamental changes, four years after his loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.
"We have been treated so badly, mostly by allies," Trump told a rally in Wisconsin in September. "Our allies treat us actually worse than our so-called enemies.
"On military, we protect them and then they screw us on trade. We’re not going to let it happen anymore. We’re going to be a tariff nation," he added.
It was a stunning admission, but neither surprising or new.
Presidents have wide latitude on foreign policy and can enter or nix many international agreements unilaterally.
His comments in Wisconsin came days before he went to the other crucial swing state of Michigan and visited the predominantly Arab city of Hamtramck - where he met with the town's Yemeni-Muslim mayor, Amer Ghalib.
The visit, not to mention Ghalib's official endorsement of Trump, would have been unthinkable in the 2020 or 2016 elections when the majority of American Muslims voted for the Democrat Party.
But Israel's war on Gaza, and the Biden administration's full support of Israel's war efforts, allowed Trump to paint himself as the better alternative to Muslim and Arab voters outraged over the carnage.

A group of NGOs pressed countries on Wednesday to hold an emergency session of the United Nations Human Rights Council to set up an investigation into abuses regarding Israel's war on Lebanon.
In a letter to diplomatic missions, 12 NGOs, including Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, urged states to act decisively over a situation "spiralling out of control", citing incidents such as Israeli strikes on civilian infrastructure including homes and hospitals.
"There's a huge risk of the same types of atrocities occurring in Lebanon as in Gaza," said Jeremie Smith, Geneva director of the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies, whose organisation is leading the call.
More than 3,000 deaths have been reported in Lebanon as a result of Israeli strikes since 7 October 2023.
The Israeli army says at least 10 rockets have been launched from Lebanon at central and northern Israel.
The army said that one of the 10 rockets launched in the Hezbollah barrage struck an area in central Israel, impacting the Ben Gurion Airport area. No injuries were caused, according to the Times of Israel.
There are no reports of injuries, according to the army.
Egypt joined a call led by Turkey and backed by dozens of countries, urging the United Nations to halt arms deliveries to Israel, citing concerns over their use in Gaza and Lebanon.
A foreign ministry statement on Tuesday said Egypt joined the call as part of "international efforts to pressure Israel to cease its continuous violations of international law and international humanitarian law".
It also aims to stop "Israeli violations" against Palestinians and protect civilians, the statement read. Ankara submitted a letter signed by 52 countries calling for a halt in arms deliveries to Israel.
Yisrael Gantz, head of Israel’s Yesha Council, the umbrella body of Jewish settlements in the West Bank, celebrated the prospect of Donald Trump’s victory in the US election, saying it was "time for sovereignty," referring to settler ambitions to annex the occupied West Bank.
Gantz tweeted, "One strong Trump; one Jewish state."
Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri said Donald Trump should learn from Biden's mistakes as Trump claimed victory in the US presidential election, Reuters reported.
"The Democratic Party’s loss is the natural price for their leadership’s 'criminal stance' towards Gaza," the official said.
"Trump's victory puts him to the test to translate his statements that he can stop the war within hours," he added in reaction to Trump's victory speech.
"I'm not going to start wars, I'm going to stop wars," Trump said. "We had no wars, for four years we had no wars. Except we defeated ISIS."
