The Gaza government media office reported that the number of journalists killed has reached 183 since the beginning of Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip.

According to data from the Committee to Protect Journalists, based in New York, the Gaza conflict is now the “deadliest for journalists” since the organisation began documenting journalist fatalities worldwide in 1992.

The International Center for Journalists, a Washington-based NGO, said in February that violence against journalists in Gaza has reached unprecedented levels in the past 30 years, urging Israel to cease these actions and investigate the killings of media personnel by its forces.

He added, “The army will maintain operational security control in Gaza for the long term to meet the objectives of the war and prevent Hamas from recovering.”

Smotrich also estimated that “a political settlement will be reached by the end of the year.”

A global LGBTQ+ advocacy group has suspended an Israeli member organisation and dropped its bid to hold an upcoming conference in Tel Aviv, following strong calls from Palestinian LGBTQ+ groups to do so.

The International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association, known as ILGA Worldannounced this week that its board had suspended the membership of The Aguda, an umbrella organisation for Israel’s LGBTQ+ community.

ILGA World said The Aguda’s proposal to hold the group’s next world conference in Tel Aviv had violated its aims and objectives, and it is now reviewing The Aguda’s larger compliance with the ILGA World constitution.

The Aguda’s bid had been due to be voted on at ILGA World’s conference this month in Cape Town, South Africa.

“We know that seeing the Tel Aviv bid taken into consideration caused anger and harm to our communities,” ILGA World said.

Fifteen United Nations and humanitarian organisations have issued a strong plea for an immediate ceasefire and protection for civilians in Gaza, urging Israel to end its assault on the enclave. In a joint statement, they described conditions in north Gaza as "apocalyptic", saying that hospitals have been attacked, schools bombed and civilians targeted as they seek refuge.

"Humanitarian aid cannot keep up with the scale of the needs due to access constraints," they said, as essentials like food and medical supplies remain unavailable. They reported that rescue teams are "deliberately attacked" while attempting to save those trapped under rubble.

The statement also condemned recent Israeli legislation that bans the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (Unrwa), calling it a "catastrophe for the humanitarian response in Gaza" and a move that "violates Israel’s obligations under international law".

Expressing profound concern for Gaza's population, the groups called for Israel to respect international law and humanitarian principles, saying that "there is no alternative" to Unrwa for supporting the millions who rely on its services. They also called on both Israel and Palestinian armed groups to comply with international law, release detainees and cease attacks on civilian infrastructure.

In their appeal, they urged UN member states to ensure compliance with international law, stating: "The entire region is on the edge of a precipice. An immediate cessation of hostilities and a sustained, unconditional ceasefire are long overdue."
