Israeli forces detained at least 15 Palestinians from across the occupied West Bank overnight, including a child, according to the Palestinian Prisoners' Society and the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs.

The late-night raids took place in several areas, including Hebron, Ramallah, Qalqilya, Tulkarm, Salfit and occupied East Jerusalem.

More than 11,700 Palestinians have been detained in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since the war began in October last year.

An Israeli strike has killed Mohammad Afif, Hezbollah's media relations chief, in the densely populated Ras al-Nabaa neighbourhood of Beirut, according to sources cited by Reuters.

Many people displaced from the capital's southern suburbs by Israeli bombardment had sought refuge in Ras al-Nabaa.

The Lebanese health ministry said the strike killed one and wounded three others.

Security sources told Reuters the Israeli air raid struck a building where the offices of the Syrian Social Nationalist Party were located.

The party's chief in Lebanon, Ali Hijazi, told Lebanese broadcaster Al-Jadeed that Afif was in the building at the time.

Pope Francis has said the international community should study whether Israel's war in Gaza constitutes a genocide of the Palestinian people.

In excerpts published on Sunday from a forthcoming book, the pontiff said some international experts say "what is happening in Gaza has the characteristics of a genocide".

"We should investigate carefully to assess whether this fits into the technical definition [of genocide] formulated by international jurists and organisations," the pope said in excerpts published by Italian newspaper La Stampa.

Pope Francis has previously condemned the deaths of Palestinian children in Israeli strikes in Gaza, and described Israeli air strikes in Lebanon as going "beyond morality".

Last week he met at the Vatican with a delegation of former captives held by Hamas in Gaza, who were campaigning for the release of relatives and others still being held.

The Israeli military issued call-up notices to more members of the ultra-Orthodox community on Sunday to bolster its forces in its wars on Gaza and Lebanon.

The Israeli Supreme Court ruled earlier this year that the defence ministry could no longer grant blanket exemptions to Jewish seminary students from conscription. Such an arrangement had been in place since Israel was created in 1948, when the number of ultra-Orthodox, or Haredi, was much smaller than today.

Israel's defence ministry said that 7,000 members of the community would gradually receive call-up notices.

The ministry said it would work with community leaders to ensure ultra-Orthodox soldiers could preserve their religious lifestyles while serving.

In July, the military called up 1,000 ultra-Orthodox men. The policy shift has been opposed by ultra-Orthodox parties in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government.

Some rabbis were reportedly urging those who received notices to refuse to serve, Israeli public broadcaster Kan reported on Sunday.

Earlier on Sunday, an Israeli air strike killed at least 10 people in al-Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, when a missile hit a house, medics said.

Israeli settlers have invaded the village of Beit Furik outside Nablus in the occupied West Bank.

Dozens of masked settlers entered the village and burned houses and cars, according to Al Jazeera.

Israeli soldiers blocked the roads surrounding the village and stood by as the settlers launched their attack, local media reported.

“They did not leave anything, the electricity pole, and all our belongings, the sofas, the water tank, they did not leave a thing,” Mahmoud Hananeh, a resident of the village, told Al Jazeera.
