Despite a supposed ceasefire, the Israeli military has admitted to opening fire multiple times across Gaza in the past 24 hours.

Avichay Adraee, the military's Arabic spokesperson, confirmed these actions in a post on X, although he failed to specify the exact locations.

At least one incident occurred in Rafah, where an Israeli sniper fatally shot a Palestinian child.

The military defended the shooting, claiming it was responding to "threats" from armed fighters.

As Israel looks to delay the full withdrawal of its troops from Lebanon per the ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, several Israeli media reports have said that US President Donald Trump is opposed to any such delay.

Under the terms of the ceasefire agreement reached between Hezbollah and Israel, all Israeli troops are supposed to leave Lebanese territory by Sunday.

Israel's Channel 13 news reported on Wednesday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has requested that the Trump administration give their blessing to allow Israel to maintain five military outposts in the country after the withdrawal deadline.

Such a move would prolong Israel's presence in parts of southern Lebanon.

However, a report by Israel's Army Radio said that Trump was opposed to this and is expecting Israel to abide by the terms of the ceasefire.

Qatar's foreign ministry has condemned Israel's ongoing military operations in Jenin, describing them as a "blatant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights".

The ministry called on the international community to take immediate action against these violations and to ensure the safety of Palestinian civilians.

Israel's recent assault on the Jenin refugee camp has now entered its third day, with reports confirming at least 12 Palestinians have been killed and widespread destruction of homes and infrastructure.

An Israeli court has ordered the eviction of 26 Palestinian families from their homes in the Batn al-Hawa neighbourhood of the Silwan district in occupied East Jerusalem, according to the Wafa news agency.

The court said the homes were constructed on land once owned by Jewish individuals before 1948, the year the Israeli state was founded.

This ruling affects 154 Palestinians who now face the prospect of being displaced from their homes.

The court's decision mandates that the families vacate their residences within the next six months, further deepening the hardships faced by Palestinians in the region.

On Thursday, the United Nations office for the coordination of humanitarian affairs confirmed that 653 aid trucks made their way into Gaza, marking the fifth day of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

The UN received this data from Israeli officials and the parties overseeing the ceasefire agreement, which include the United States, Egypt and Qatar.

The delivery of aid comes as Gaza continues to face severe humanitarian crises, with many lacking basic supplies and infrastructure.

In an attempt to suppress coverage of Palestinian celebrations surrounding the release of prisoners under Israel's deal with Hamas, Israeli police in Jerusalem are clamping down on press freedom, the Israeli paper Haaretz reported.

Four female Palestinian journalists from East Jerusalem were held by Israeli police for trying to report on the return of Palestinian prisoners to their homes.

Journalists also said they faced threats and violent treatment while covering the events.

The families of released prisoners were also warned by authorities not to organise marches or share their experiences on social media.

Arab League secretary general Ahmed Aboul Gheit has labelled the Gaza ceasefire an inadequate measure for long-term peace.

He said that the only way to achieve genuine stability is by establishing an independent Palestinian state.

Referring to Israel's 15-month campaign in Gaza as "genocide", Gheit told the UN Security Council that real peace can only be reached when Palestinians are granted their right to self-determination on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as their capital.

He also warned that Israel's ongoing oppression of Palestinians threatens not just regional but global peace.

Gaza police spokesman Mohammed al-Zarqa announced that law enforcement officers have redeployed across the enclave, with all police stations now back in operation, Al Jazeera Arabic reported.

He said that security forces are committed to maintaining order and protecting civilians as they rebuild their lives in the aftermath of Israel’s war on Gaza.

Anyone who imagined that US President Donald Trump would be the Stop the War president the Middle East had been waiting for, should have a look at what is currently underway in the Occupied West Bank.

Dumbfounded by the sight of hundreds of well turned out Hamas fighters and jeeps surrounding the Red Cross transport vehicle which held the first three Israeli hostages to be released, the Israeli army is laying waste to Jenin with a fury uninhibited by 15 months of continuous war.

The images from the hostage release in Gaza City shocked an Israeli public fed on myths of total victory. "After a year and four months, in which the public's eyes have been flooded with information and baseless narratives of stories of total victory and revenge, the Israeli public sees from Gaza images of Toyotas, armed Hamas members and Gaza rising from the ruins,"  journalist Israel Frey told Middle East Eye.

That said, the large-scale ground assault on the West Bank refugee camps was preplanned. But its timing was enough to keep Bezalel Smotrich, Israel's far right finance minister and de facto consul general of the occupied West Bank, in the cabinet when he threatened to resign over the ceasefire in Gaza.

The other item in Smotrich’s sweetie bag was the promise to clear out the army leadership.

Since launching its devastating war on Gaza, Israel’s military has significantly expanded its reliance on artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing, pouring resources into technologies from Google and Microsoft, according to reports from The Washington Post and +972 Magazine.

Documents obtained by The Post reveal Google’s cooperation with Israel’s Defence Ministry and military, including an internal memo from weeks after 7 October 2023 in which a Google employee pushed for increased AI access for the Israeli army. Further documents from spring and summer 2024 show additional requests for AI capabilities.

Meanwhile, records cited in +972 Magazine indicate that Israel’s use of Microsoft’s Azure cloud services skyrocketed after October 2023 - soaring sevenfold in just one month and increasing 64 times by March 2024.

In its report, +972 found that Microsoft has a "footprint" in Israel’s military operations, with its cloud and artificial intelligence services seeing a massive surge in sales to the Israeli army since the assault on Gaza began.

The tech giant reportedly has a “footprint in all major military infrastructures” in Israel.

A previous Washington Post investigation found that Israel had begun using an AI system called Habsora after 7 October 2023 to select human and infrastructure targets, raising concerns over the role of artificial intelligence in the military’s assault on Gaza.

The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation has reported that the Israeli army is preparing to prolong its military presence in southern Lebanon, with both Unifil and the United States having been notified of the plans.

According to the report, Israel has requested Washington’s approval to extend the military presence to “destroy Hezbollah’s infrastructure”.

The move is likely to escalate tensions, with critics warning it violates Lebanese sovereignty and risks further destabilising the area.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (Unrwa) has revealed that while many displaced Palestinians have returned to their homes following the ceasefire, most of their houses are in ruins and unfit for living.

“The needs are immense after 15 months of relentless bombardment and severe restrictions on humanitarian aid,” the agency stated on X.

Meanwhile, Israel’s parliament has passed a controversial law banning Unrwa’s operations from 28 January.

Unrwa chief Philippe Lazzarini condemned the move, warning it would “deprive the poorest communities of their right to health.”

Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister has made a rare visit to Lebanon, his first in a decade, following the country’s long-overdue election of a president and appointment of a prime minister.

Faisal bin Farhan expressed confidence in Lebanon’s new leadership, saying they could “implement necessary reforms” to bring stability and unity to the crisis-hit nation.

Bin Farhan reaffirmed Riyadh’s support for the US-brokered ceasefire that ended Israel’s war on Lebanon and demanded the “full withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces” from Lebanese territory.

Hezbollah has warned that Israel’s apparent attempt to extend its military presence beyond the ceasefire deadline is “unacceptable”.

Gaza’s municipality has begun clearing the city’s main roads to prepare for the return of thousands of displaced Palestinians after the devastation from Israeli bombardment left critical infrastructure in ruins.

Speaking to Al Jazeera Arabic, municipality spokesman Asem Al-Nabih said: “More than 70 percent of the roads have been completely or partially destroyed by Israeli strikes.”

Despite the damage, Nabih said officials have devised a plan to restore the city, which requires international assistance.

“The list of urgent needs has been sent to international organisations, and we hope intervention will come swiftly,” he said, saying that Gaza cannot recover alone from the war on Gaza.
