UN chief Antonio Guterres’s spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, confirmed that the UN received “around 90 truckloads of goods” and dispatched them to Gaza.

“We have no further details to share at this time,” Dujarric said.

The UN said earlier that it had not been able to distribute aid to Gaza.

A private US-backed foundation set up to distribute aid in war-stricken Gaza said on Wednesday that it will start handing out supplies in "coming days" and that its aim was to complement rather than replace the United Nations.

The United Nations has said it will not take part in the operation being prepared by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) which has been widely discredited among aid workers, and even members of the Foundation's board in a recent Financial Times interview.

The foundation, which has been based in Geneva since February, said in a statement it "will be operational in the coming days and will deliver aid to the people of Gaza without delay, diversion, or discrimination."

Noor Abdalla, the wife of detained US green card holder and Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil, has slammed the US for not allowing him to have contact with his family, including his newborn son.

“I am furious at the cruelty and inhumanity of this system that dares to call itself just,” Abdalla said in a statement on Wednesday, criticising the US immigration department for preventing Khalil from meeting their son.

“This is not just heartless. It is deliberate violence, the calculated cruelty of a government that tears families apart without remorse,” Abdalla said.

Khalil is a Columbia University student who was detained for his advocacy for Palestine.

A Doctors Without Borders official told Channel 4 News on Wednesday that Israel's blockade of Gaza was a war crime.

Clare Manera, Emergency Coordinator for Doctors Without Borders, slammed Israel's blockade of Gaza in an interview conducted from Deir al-Balah in central Gaza.

Israel has fully blockaded the enclave since early March. The UN says it has not been able to distribute aid despite Israel agreeing to let a trickle of aid trucks enter.

On Wednesday, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric, said UN chief Antonio Guterres was “alarmed” by reports that the Israeli army fired shots towards a diplomatic delegation visiting Jenin in the occupied West Bank.

“It is clear that diplomats who are doing their work should never be shot at, attacked in any way, shape or form," Dujarric said.

He added that the limited aid entering the enclave was insufficient to avoid mass starvation.

“The limited supplies finally being allowed to enter Kerem Shalom are nowhere near enough to meet the needs in Gaza, which are vast, which are tremendous. Much, much more aid needs to get in," he said.

The UN said on Wednesday that it has not been able to distribute aid.

Israel will create a “sterile zone” in southern Gaza for pre-screened Palestinians, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday.

“In this zone, which will be totally free of Hamas, residents of Gaza will receive full humanitarian aid,” he added.

It's not clear how long Palestinians will stay in the zone, as Netanyahu said that in order to end the war, one condition is the forcible displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, according to a plan US President Donald Trump floated earlier this year.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday that all of the Gaza Strip would be under Israeli control by the end of its debilitating offensive on the enclave.

"All of the Gaza Strip will be under the Israeli army's control" by the end of the current assault, Netanyahu said at a press briefing in Jerusalem. He added that Israel was only allowing a trickle of aid into Gaza to keep its allies in the US happy.

"We must avoid a humanitarian crisis in order to preserve our freedom of operational action," he said.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday that the implementation of US President Donald Trump's plan from earlier this year for Palestinians to be forcibly displaced from Gaza is a condition for Israel ending the war.

The remarks are the first time Netanyahu has publicly linked ending Israel's war on Gaza to the forcible displacement of Palestinians from Gaza.

Netanyahu said Israel “is ready to end the war, under clear conditions that will ensure the safety of Israel – all the hostages come home, Hamas lays down its arms, steps down from power, its leadership is exiled from the Strip… Gaza is totally disarmed, and we carry out the Trump plan. A plan that is so correct and so revolutionary.”

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Israel is committing war crimes in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, in a sharp criticism of Israel.

“A political war that has no purpose will not return a single hostage and will also involve the loss of the lives of brave soldiers,” Olmert said in comments carried by Israel’s public broadcaster, Kan.

He said Israeli forces are committing “war crimes” in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

“Every day in Judea and Samaria, war crimes are being committed by Israelis," he said.

The UN has still not been able to distribute aid in the Gaza Strip as the enclave faces the risk of mass starvation.

Stephane Dujarric, UN chief Antonio Guterres’s spokesman, said no humanitarian supplies have been able to leave the Kerem Shalom crossing in southern Israel.

“None of the supplies have been able to leave the Kerem Shalom loading area,” Dujarric said at a briefing.

“This is because by yesterday evening, the Israeli authorities had only allowed our teams to go through one area that was highly congested, that we felt was insecure, and where we felt looting was highly likely to take place given the prolonged deprivation in Gaza," he added.

Since 2 March, Israel has enforced a total blockade on Gaza, preventing any food, medical supplies, or goods from entering the besieged enclave.

On Sunday, Israel stated it would allow a “basic amount of food” into Gaza for what it described as “diplomatic reasons” aimed at easing international pressure that could force an end to the ongoing war.

Germany "strongly condemned" on Wednesday what the Israeli military said were "warning shots" fired during a visit by foreign diplomats, including one from Germany, in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin.

"The Israeli government must promptly investigate the circumstances," a foreign ministry spokeswoman said, adding that Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul would raise the "unprovoked shooting" with his Israeli counterpart.

"The independent observer role of diplomats on the ground is indispensable and in no way poses a threat to Israeli security interests," the spokeswoman added.
