Hamas issued a sharp criticism of the Palestinian Authority on Tuesday after President Mahmoud Abbas's office suggested that Hamas was entertaining proposals for a so-called Palestinian mini-state.

“There are no such proposals except in the imagination of some influential people in the Authority aiming to distort the movement’s image, after the achievements it has made in thwarting displacement projects, forcing the Zionist enemy to stop its aggression, and achieving an honourable exchange deal," Hamas said in a statement.

The PA warned Hamas not to get involved in “potential American and regional proposals for the establishment of a mini-Palestinian state and an extensive land exchange with Israel”.

Hamas said the Palestinian Authority was engaged in a "campaign of distortion and misinformation".

Israeli soldiers will stay embedded in Syria's strategic high ground, Mount Hermon, indefinitely, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said after a visit.

“The IDF will remain at the summit of the Hermon and the security zone indefinitely to ensure the security of the communities of the Golan Heights and the north, and all the residents of Israel,” Katz said.

Israel seized Mount Hermon after Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad was toppled in December. The snowcapped mountain overlooks the Syria-Lebanon border and puts Israel within striking distance of Damascus.

Israel is waging a "relentless assault" on the UN Palestinian relief agency, which is undermining the lives of Palestinians, the organisation's leader said.

“The relentless assault on UNRWA is harming the lives and future of Palestinians across the occupied Palestinian territory,” Philippe Lazzarini, the chief of Unrwa, told the UN Security Council.

“It is eroding their trust in the international community, jeopardising any prospect for peace and security,” he added.

The United States supports Israel's move to cut all contact with the UN's Palestinian relief agency Unrwa, a US envoy to the UN told a Security Council meeting on the issue Tuesday.

"The United States supports the implementation of this decision," said Dorothy Shea, a United States representative to the UN who suggested Unrwa officials were "exaggerating the effects of the laws".

On Tuesday, Israel's envoy to the UN said that Israel would cease all contact with Unrwa and any other body acting on its behalf.

Israel's ban on Unrwa in occupied East Jerusalem is set to take effect on Thursday.

On Sunday, US President Donald Trump proposed that one and a half million Palestinians in Gaza be relocated to Jordan or Egypt as part of a plan to "just clean out" the enclave. His special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, even suggested relocating a portion of the Gaza population to Indonesia.

Israel’s former far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir supported Trump’s suggestion in a post on X.

"One of our demands from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is to promote voluntary emigration. When the president of the world’s greatest superpower, Trump, personally brings up this idea, it is worth the Israeli government implementing it - promoting emigration now," he wrote.

This ethnic cleansing would pave the way for Jewish colonisation projects and the transformation of Gaza into the futuristic technological hub that Netanyahu dreams of.

With this plan, Trump is in keeping with the long-term movement of Zionism and, more precisely, the war objectives set by the Israeli far right.

France on Tuesday said any forced displacement of Palestinians in Gaza would be "unacceptable" after US President Donald Trump proposed moving them to Egypt and Jordan.

"Any forced displacement of the population in Gaza would be unacceptable," a French foreign ministry spokesman said when asked about Trump's comments.

"It would not only be a serious violation of international law, but also a major hindrance to the two-state solution," the spokesman said, referring to calls for Israeli and Palestinian states living side-by-side.

It would also be a "destabilisation factor (for) our close allies Egypt and Jordan".

Israelis applying for a visa to New Zealand will now have to disclose details about their military service, the Times of Israel reports.

At least one person has been denied entry after revealing this information, the Israeli outlet says.

If Israelis have served in the military, or are active duty reservists, they are subjected to a series of questions including if they "used or promoted violence or human rights abuses to further their aims" and whether they have been "involved in war crimes, crimes against humanity, or human rights abuses".
